Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody is specific for human CD51. CD51 is a receptor for vitronectin. It recognizes the sequence R-G-D in a wide array of ligands. |
Alternative Name | Integrin alpha-V; ITGAV; Vitronectin receptor; Vitronectin receptor subunit alpha |
UniProt | P06756 |
Immunogen | The mouse version of this antibody was raised by immunizing a BALB/c mouse with cultured melanoma cells derived from a human melanoma metastasis. |
Application Notes | To study MSCs as a promising therapeutic agents for a variety of diseases, flow cytometry was performed on human MSCs using the mouse version of this antibody (Wang et al, 2015; pmid:26148841). To study how Bordetella pertussis enters respiratory epithelial cells, an invasion assay was performed using the mouse version of this antibody on human lung epithelial cell line A549 with Bordetella pertussis (Ishibashi et al, 2001; pmid:11373122). To find surface markers specific for Nestin+ cells, flow cytometry was performed on mouse BM primary cells using the mouse version of this antibody.Furthermore, human foetal bones and HA/TCP grafts were stained using this antibody (Pinho et al, 2013; pmid:23776077). To investigate the developmental pathway for human megakaryocytes, flow cytometry was performed on BM HSPCs from healthy donors using the mouse version of this antibody (Miyawaki et al, 2017; pmid:28336526). |
Antibody First Published | Quinn et al. Extracellular matrix receptor and platelet antigens on osteoclasts and foreign body giant cells Histochemistry. 1991;96(2):169-76. PMID:1717412 |
Note on publication | The antigenic phenotype of OCs and foreign body giant cells (FBGCs) was investigated for the presence of several integrin molecules and other largely platelet-associated antigens involved in cell adhesion reactions. Both OCs and FBGCs expressed the alpha-chains of the vitronectin receptor (CD51) and of the VLA-2 (CDw49b) and VLA-4 (CDw49d) molecules as well as their respective beta- chains, gpIIIa (CD61) and CD29. |
