Specificity | This antibody binds the surface lipopolysaccharide of Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia thailandensis. Burkholderia pseudomallei (BP), is Recently, BP has been recognized as a major cause of community-acquired septicemia, resulting in significant mortalitythe causative agent of melioidosis (Whitmore’s disease), is a gram-negative, facultative anaerobic, motile bacillus commonly found in the soil and stagnant waters. BP infection is often due to either direct inoculation into wounds and skin abrasions or inhalation of contaminated materials. Recently, BP has been recognized as a major cause of community- acquired septicemia, resulting in significant mortality. |
Alternative Name | Lipopolysaccharide; Burkholderia spp; Burkholderia pseudomallei; BP; Burkholderia thailandensis, melioidosis; Whitmore’s disease |

Immunogen | The original antibody was generated by immunizing mice with various antigen preparations from B. pseudomallei (ATCC 23343). |
Application Notes | This antibody can be used for the detection of heat killed, sodium periodate treated, proteinase K treated or 0.02% SDS treated Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia thailandensis in a sample using ELISA. It was reported that this antibody could recognize 34, 38∼52 kDa polypeptide antigens from Burkholderia pseudomallei and 34, 38∼60 kDa polypeptide antigens from Burkholderia thailandensis in a western blot assay (PMID: 21573027). |
