Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody recognises human von Willebrand factor (also know as Factor VIII related antigen). It is produced by endothelial cells and megakaryocytes and is involved in the process of hemostasis by engaging in adhesion of platelets to the sites of vascular injury. Mutations in this gene lead to Von Willebrand's disease which causes frequent bleeding. |
Alternative Name | von Willebrand factor; von Willebrand antigen 2; von Willebrand antigen II; coagulation factor VIII VWF; factor VIII-related antigen; F8; F8VWF; VWD |
UniProt | P04275 |
Immunogen | This antibody was raised against von Willebrand factor isolated from human plasma. |
Application Notes | IHC: F8/86 antibody was used in immunohistochemistry expermients to stain against vWF in samples of murine stomach tissue in a study exploring the potential use of mesenchymal cells in myocardium regeneration (Freemen et al., 2015). ICC: This antibody was also used in an attempt to characterise human gingival microvascular endothelial cells where it identified vWF via immunocytochemical staining (DeCarlo et al., 2008). FACS: Another group has successfully used F8/86 antibody in a cell sorting procedure in a study which analysed the influence of physical environment on the rat mesenchymal stem cells (Xue et al., 2017). |
