Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody recognizes alpha catenin and binds to the domain between amino acids 135-226. α-catenin associates with the cytoplasmic domain of a variety of plasma membrane spanning cadherins that mediate cell-cell adhesion. The association of catenins to cadherins produces a complex that is linked to the actin filament network, which seems to be of primary importance for their cell-adhesion properties. |
Alternative Name | Catenin alpha-1; Alpha E-catenin; Cadherin-associated protein; Renal carcinoma antigen NY-REN-13; α-catenin; α catenin; α(E)-catenin |
UniProt | P35221 |
Immunogen | This antibody was raised by immunizing Balb/c mice with a 90 kDa MBP/alpha catenin fusion protein purified on an amylose column. |
Application Notes | This antibody is recommended for the detection and analysis of alpha-catenin via various methods. For instance, it was used to identify alpha-catenin in MDA468 cells via immunofluorescence (Bajpai et al., 2009). It was also repeatedly demonstrated that 1G5 specifically detects alpha-catenin on Western blots (Johnson et al., 1993; Stadler et al., 2018). |
Antibody First Published | Johnson et al. P- and E-cadherin are in separate complexes in cells expressing both cadherins. Exp Cell Res. 1993 Aug;207(2):252-60. PMID:8344378 |
