Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody binds the LDL binding site 'RLASHLRKLRKRLLR' of the human apolipoprotein E.This antibody binds well with apoE3 and poorly with apoE2. Apolipoprotein E (apoE), a 299 amino acid lipoprotein, is a ligand for the low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLr). APO E is involved in the metabolism of fats and it is implicated in the Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular diseases. It mainly functions in lipoprotein-mediated lipid transport between organs via the plasma and interstitial fluids. |
Alternative Name | ApoE; Apolipoprotein E |
UniProt | P02649 |
Immunogen | The original antibody was generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with human apoE3. |
Application Notes | This antibody was reported to binds to apoE and blocks apoE-mediated binding of lipoproteins to the low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLr). It was also reported that this antibody resembles LDLr in showing reduced reactivity against apoE (Arg158Cys). The reactivity of this antibody to various apoE variants was determined using ELISA (PMID: 8558079). This antibody partially blocked the binding of apoE isoforms to the immobilized VLDL receptor (PMID: 15863833). |
