Specificity
This antibody (BT32/A6) recognizes a surface and cytoplasmic antigen present on a variety of human tumor cell lines including gliomas, melanomas, neuroblastomas, and a few sarcomas.

The original antibody was generated by fusing peripheral B lymphocytes (PBL) obtained from four patients with astrocytic tumors with human myeloma-like cell line TM-H2-SP2 to create hybridomas.
Application Notes
The binding specificity of the IgM version of this antibody for human glioma cell lines was tested using ELISA (PMID： 1545260). Further characterization of binding of the IgM version of this antibody to SK-MG-1 and other cultured human cell lines was done using flow cytometry (US5639863; PMID： 7861227). This antibody was also used for the immunoperoxidase staining of human tumor cells (US5639863). Point mutation were introduced to increase the solubility and thermal refolding efficiency the antibody (PMID： 16971398). This antibody was also used to identify the non-human cell lines, normal human tissues, tumors of central neuroepithelial origin which express the antigen it binds (PMID： 9266445).
