Specificity
This antibody binds specifically to chicken IL-6, an interleukin that acts as both a pro- inflammatory cytokine and an anti-inflammatory myokine (cytokine produced from muscle). Further, the antibody shows cross-reactivity with human and murine IL-6.

The original antibody was raised by immunising BALB/C mice with recombinant chicken IL-6.
Application Notes
The specificity of this antibody (IgG2b) towards the native protein chIL-6 was confirmed in ELISA analysis (Scott et al, 2006; pmid: 16930722). The antibody detected the denatured chIL- 6 by western blot. The antibody showed inhibitory activity on murine IL-6 on a B9 hybridoma cell bioassay. The bioassay was run with varying concentrations of the antibody in order to determine the effective concentration for neutralizing IL-6. Further, recombinant forms of chicken, human and murine IL-6 were all tested in the bioassay. The antibody was effective in neutralizing all three recombinant IL-6 proteins.
