Specificity
This antibody recognizes the P1.7 loop of the PorA protein of Neisseria meningitidis. Epitope mapping revealed that this antibody specifically binds a sequence 'ASGQ'. The binding of this antibody was enhanced by the addition of a C-terminal valine residue (ASGQv).

Immunogen
The original antibody was generated by immunizing mice with outer membrane vesicles from Neisseria meningitidis strain 188/87 (B:15:P1.7,16d ET-5).
Application Notes
This antibody was reported to have bactericidal and opsonophagocytic effects for P1.7- expressing meningococci. This antibody demonstrated high opsonophagocytic activity with >80% of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) exhibiting measurable respiratory burst (RB) at a concentration of the MAbs of 10 μg/ml. The phagocytic activity was tested against log-phase-growth strain 44/76-SL bacteria by using human serum as a complement source, human PMNs as effector cells, and increasing concentrations of the antibody as the opsonin. The test was performed by using flow cytometry to measure the respiratory burst induced in the effector cells following phagocytosis of the test strain. The epitope mapping of this antibody was done using ELISA (PMID: 10722576).
