Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody is specific to Glycophorin-A and does not recognise Glycophorin-B. Glycophorin-A is a sialoglycoprotein and a crucial element of the erythrocytes' membrane. Part of it is a receptor for certain viruses, such as influenza and hepatitis A. |

UniProt | P02724 |
Immunogen | This antibody was raised by immunising BALB/c mice against membrane preparation from splenic hairy cell leukaemia cells. |
Application Notes | JC159 antibody may be used in experiments where detection of erythrocytes is needed. One group successfully used it to visualise haemorrhage in tissue samples when studying neuropathological features present in fatal malaria (Medana et al., 2002). Another group utilisied this antibody to identify redblood cell residues in human soft tissue lesions decomposed in air and water from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded skin samples in order to improve the uderstanding and assessment of cadaver-investigation in criminology (Taborelli et al., 2011). Finally, Pich et al. (2009) performed immunohistochemical analysis of bone marrow samples with this antibody when investigating the potential role of JAK2V617F mutation in myeloproliferative type of chronic myelomonocyticleukaemia. |
