Basic Information | |
Specificity | Specificity: This antibody can bind sulphonamide drugs. Sulfonamides are synthetic bacteriostatic antibiotics that competitively inhibit conversion of p-aminobenzoic acid to dihydropteroate, which bacteria need for folate synthesis and ultimately purine and DNA synthesis. Sulfonamides have a wide range of antimicrobial activity against both gram-positive and -negative organisms. Sulfonamides are still widely used especially for urinary tract infections in combination with trimethoprim and for treatment or prevention of parasitic (toxoplasmosis, pneumocystosis jiroveci) and malarial infections usually combined with trimethoprim or pyrimethamine. |
Alternative Name | SN; sulfanilamides; sulfa drugs; sulpha drugs. |
UniProt | |
Immunogen | The original antibody was generated by immunizing an alpaca with sulfonamide drug hapten was coupled with bovine serum albumin. |
Application Notes | This antibody can be used for detecting sulfonamide drug residues in a sample using ELISA (CN114014935). |
