Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody is specific for benzo[a]pyrene, which is an organic compound belonging to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). Benzo[a]pyrene is one of the isomeric forms of benzopyrene. It comes from certain substances when they are not burned completely. It is found in car exhaust, smoke from wood fires, tobacco, oil and gas products, charred or grilled foods, and other sources. Traces of Benzopyrene are found in soil and water. It is also a causative agent for skin rashes, burning feeling, skin color changes, warts, bronchitis and even lung cancers. |
Alternative Name | B[a]P; PAHs; PAH; Benzo[a]pyrene; 3 4-Benzopyrene; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; chrysene; indeno[1 2 3-cd]pyrene; benzo[b]fluoranthene |
UniProt | |
Immunogen | The original antibody was generated by using six B[a]P-protein conjugates B[a]P-6-C4-BSA, B[a]P-6-C4-KLH, B[a]P-7-C4-BSA, B[a]P-7-C4-KLH, B[a]P-10-C4-BSA and B[a]P-10-C4-KLH as immunogens for mouse immunizations. |
Application Notes | This antibody was used in the development of a sensitive ELISA for the detection of benzopyrene in water. The average IC50 for B[a]P and corresponding detection limit at a signal noise (S/N) ratio of 3 was 65 ng/L and 24 ng/L. This antibody also cross reacts with chrysene,indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene, and benzo[b]fluoranthene (PMID: 15965533). |
