Application
antibody imprint, EM ICC, ELISA
Isotype
Engineer antibody
Species Reactivity
Bovine, Human
Clone No.
K42-41L
From
Recombinant Antibody
Specificity
This antibody recognises secifically C3 loop of metarhodopsin-I (residues 230-252) (and also dark-adapted form of rhodopsin) but it does not bind to the ligh-activated form - metarhodopsin-II. Rhodopsin is the best studied GPCR and is present in rod cells where it is activated by light being responsible for the signal transduction in the visual system.
Alternative Names
opsin-2; meta I rhodopsin; rhodopsin; opsin 2; metarhodopsin I
UniProt
P08100
Immunogen
This antibody was raised by immunising mice with rhodopsin.
Application Notes
Antibody imprint: This antibody was used to investigate the structure of rhodopsin's meta-states; the researchers employed the antibody imprint technique to analyse conformational changes which this molecule undergoes upon activation by light (Bailey et al., 2003). Another group used K42-41L antibody to demonstrate that it is capable of discriminating between metarhodopsins I and II, and that it stabilises metarhodopsin I while inhibiting metarhodopsin II; these data suggest that this antibody might be useful in the structural studies of opsins (Piscitelli et al., 2006). EM ICC: K42-41L antibody was utilised to stain different structures of Xenopus laevis retinas in EM immunocytochemistry LR white samples in a study investigating opsin localisation (Besharse and Wetzel, 1995).
