From
Recombinant Antibody
Specificity
This antibody binds the CPS-500 antigen of sporozoites and merozoites of Cryptosporidium parvum. Cryptosporidium parvum is a coccidian parasite that infects intestinal epithelium and causes diarrheal disease in humans and other agriculturally important food animals for which specific therapy and immunoprophylaxis are unavailable. Cryptosporidiosis is self-limiting in hosts with normal immune systems; however, in neonates, the elderly, and hosts having congenital or acquired immunodeficiency diseases or chemotherapy-induced immunosuppression, cryptosporidial enterocolitis may become chronic and have severe consequences.
Alternative Names
β-mannosylated glycolipid, CPS-500 antigen
UniProt
Immunogen
The original antibody was generated by immunizing mice with whole cells of Cryptosporidium parvum.
Application Notes
This antibody reacts with both sporozoites and merozoites of C. parvum in an indirect immunofluorescence assay. This antibody is capable of neutralizing sporozoites and merozoites in a time dependent manner (PMID: 2193057; 2473130). This antibody can be used for the identification of sporozoites, merozoites and CPS-500 antigen of C. parvum using western blot. The identification of sporozoite-neutralizing antibody was done using ELISA (PMID: 20086143). This antibody in combination with PLA2 or LL37 was also used in the generation of a biocide fusion proteins to kill C. parvum sporozoites in vitro and in vivo (PMID: 20086143).
