Specificity
The antibody is specific for desmin. Desmin is a 53 kDa intermediate filament protein that exhibits a high degree of tissue specificity, its expression being predominantly confined to all types of muscle cells (cardiac, skeletal and smooth muscle).

The original antibody was generated by immunizing a mouse with a cytoskeletal extract of Chicken gizzard.
Application Notes
The antibody detected desmin in western blot analysis. The original antibody showed staining pattern of desmin in BHK cells (Quax et al., 1985; PMID: 3855248). The antibody stained desmin on smooth muscle cells of rat prostatic tissue by indirect immunofluorescence (Verhagen et al., 1988; PMID: 2458583).
