Specificity
This antibody recognizes a continuous epitope located at α-helix 10 (residues 196 to residues 207) in the C-terminal domain of the HIV BMJ4 p24 capsid protein. The p24 capsid protein is part of the HIV- 1 Gag precursor protein (p55), together with the matrix (MA/p17) and nucleocapsid (NC/p7) protein domains. p55 is the main structural HIV-1 protein, and is uniquely responsible for virion assembly within the virus life cycle.

The original antibody was generated by immunizing mice with p24 protein.
Application Notes
The crystal structure of the Fab fragment in complex with the p24 protein from natural HIV-1 strain (BMJ4) was determined. The specificity of the antibody for the p 24 protein of BMJ4 strain was demonstrated by ELISA analysis. Immunofluorescence was performed on 293FT cells using this antibody (Gu et al., 2013; 23620741). The antibody detected CA N21C/A22C-V3 protein by Western blot analysis (Zhang et al. 2018; PMID: 30486318).
