From
Recombinant Antibody
Specificity
This antibody is specific for the alpha subunit of the human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (hCG), a hormone produced by a part of the placenta, the syncytiotrophoblast, following implantation. The hormone has an important role during pregnancy, as it interacts with the LHCG receptor in the ovaries to prevent the degeneration of the corpus luteum, and thereby allows the secretion of progesterone during the first trimester. hCG is a heterodimeric glycoprotein, composed of an α and a β domain, of which the α is identical to that of LH and FSH, while the β is unique to hCG.
Alternative Names
hCG; CGA; Human chorionic gonadotropin; Choriogonadotropin subunit alpha; Chorionic gonadotropin chain alpha; CG-alpha
UniProt

Immunogen
The original antibody was generated by immunizing a male Llama glama with RR6 azo dye coupled with bovine serum albumin.
Application Notes
This antibody can be used for the detection of presence of hCG in a sample. The binding specificity of this antibody towards alpha subunit of hCG was determined using ELISA. This antibody was reported to bind hCG with a binding affinity of 300-400 nM (PMID: 10209277).
