Specificity
This antibody binds lycopene. Lycopene is a naturally occurring red pigment, which belongs to the family of carotenoids. It is found in tomatoes, watermelon and papaya. Lycopene is one of the most powerful antioxidants, belonging to the tetraterpene group, whose anti-radical activity exceeds the antioxidant potential of tocopherol, beta-carotene and ascorbic acid. The highly unsaturated chemical structure of lycopene predetermines its ability to react with many substances containing or generating singlet molecular oxygen such as peroxyl radicals, hydrogen peroxide and hypochlorite.

The original antibody was generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with lycopene-gold conjugated colloidal particles.
Application Notes
The binding reactivity of the original antibody towards lycopene was determined using ELISA (WO2018115885).
