Human PGE2.
Application Notes
The antibody binds specifically to PGE2, a lipid compound synthesised from the oxidation of arachidonic acid by cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2), and from the action of prostaglandin E synthase on prostaglandin H2. PGE2 is an important inflammatory mediator and homeostatic factor that acts on the receptors EP1, EP2 and EP3, which are all members of the family of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). The neutralisation of PGE2 by the use of monoclonal antibodies provides an alternative to the use of NSAIDs in the treatment of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
