Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody binds human cystatin C. This protein acts as an inhibitor of cysteine proteinases found in a variety of biological human fluids and secretions and acts as a regulator for its enzymatic activity. A mutation in the gene expressing cystatin C has been associated with amyloid angiopathy. This protein is secreted by all nucleated cells and is freely filtered by the glomerulus. Therefore, serum concentration of cystatin C has shown great clinical potential as a biomarker of acute kidney injury or to access renal function. Expression of this protein in vascular wall smooth muscle cells is severely reduced in both atherosclerotic and aneurysmal aortic lesions, establishing its role as a marker in vascular disease evaluation. |
Alternative Name | CysC; Cys C; CST3; Cystatin-C; Cystatin-3; Gamma-trace; Neuroendocrine basic polypeptide; Post-gamma-globulin; cysteine protease inhibitor C |
UniProt | P01034 |
Immunogen | The original antibody was generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with recombinant human cystatin C protein. |
Application Notes | The binding reactivity of this antibody for human cystatin C was determined using ELISA. This antibody can be used for the analysis of cystatin C presence in serum samples using latex turbidimetry (CN116535513). |
