Specificity | This antibody shows high sensitivity for detection of sulfamethizole (SMT) and sulfathiazole (STZ). It also has good sensitivity for detection of sulfachloropyridazine (SCP), sulfamethoxypyridazine (SMP), sulfamethoxazole (SMX), sulfaquinoxaline (SQX), sulfadoxine (SDM), sulfadimethoxypyrimidine (SDT) and sulfamoxole (SXL). Sulfonamides are synthetic bacteriostatic antibiotics that competitively inhibit conversion of p-aminobenzoic acid todihydropteroate, which bacteria need for folate synthesis and ultimately purine and DNA synthesis. |

Immunogen | The original antibody was generated by immunizing mice with a hapten made by covalently conjugating 2-(2-(4-aminophenylsulfonamido)thiazol-5-yl)acetic acid (TS) with BSA. |
