Specificity
This antibody is capable of binding human cytokeratin 5 and human cytokeratin 6. Cytokeratins are intermediate filaments found in the intracytoplasmic cytoskeleton of epithelial tissue. Cytokeratin 5/6 is often expressed in a basal cell layer of normal mammary ducts. Studies have also shown that CK5/6 can be used as a characteristic marker of basal-like breast cancer.

Immunogen
The original antibody was generated by immunizing 4-6 weeks old female ICR mice with recombinant protein comprising amino acids 488-590 of cytokeratin 5 in equal volume of Freund's incomplete adjuvant.
Application Notes
The binding characterization of this antibody was done using ELISA. The original IgG2b antibody binds cytokeratin 5/6 with a high affinity constant of 3.84 × 10^(9) M^(-1). This antibody was also used in the immunohistochemical analysis of esophagus and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The immunohistochemical staining pattern of this antibody is similar to commercially available antibody D5/16B4 (CN113845592).
