Specificity
This antibody binds the histidine containing phosphocarrier protein of Escherichia coli. It is an 85 amino acid phosphocarrier protein which is component of phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar phosphotransferase system (sugar PTS). This major carbohydrate active-transport system catalyzes the phosphorylation of incoming sugar substrates concomitantly with their translocation across the cell membrane.

Application Notes
This antibody can detect mutant histidine binding protein in crude extracts. It was also capable of inhibiting PTS sugar phosphorylation assays, but the antibody-HPr complex could still be phosphorylated by enzyme I (PMID: 2438269)
