Specificity
This antibody binds surface lipopolysaccharides of Burkholderia mallei. B. mallei (BM), a host- adapted pathogen that does not normally persist in nature, causes glanders in horse. Some studies indicated that BM is highly infectious in humans by aerosol route.

The original antibody was generated by immunizing mice with various antigen preparations of B. mallei (American Type Culture Collection [ATCC] 23344). Later on phage display technique was used to generate scFv version of this antibody.
