Specificity
This antibody binds lutein and also cross reacts with other xanthophylls like astaxanthin, meso- zeaxanthin or zeaxanthin. Lutein is a xanthophyll synthesized by plants and like other xanthophylls is found in high quantities in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale and yellow carrots.

The original antibody was generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with lutein-gold conjugated colloidal particles.
Application Notes
The binding reactivity of the original antibody towards lutein and astaxanthin was determined using ELISA (WO2018115885).
