Engineer antibody
Species Reactivity
Chicken, Rat, Human, Mouse

O4
From
Recombinant Antibody
Specificity
This antibody reacts with sulfatide and other sulphated glycolipids found on the surface of early oligodendrocyte progenitors. This antibody also reacted with seminolipid and cholesterol (PMID: 2600978). Oligodendrocytes produce myelin sheath to cover the axons in the central nervous system to support rapid nerve conduction.
Alternative Names
Oligodendrocyte; sulfated galactolipids; 3’-sulfogalactosylceramide; ; 3’- sulfogalactosyl 1-0-alkyl ether 2-acylglycerol; seminolipid; cholesterol; 04
UniProt
Immunogen
The original antibody was generated by immunizing BLAB/c mice with white matter from bovine corpus callosum.
Application Notes
Indirect immunofluorescence in cultures of early postnatal mouse cerebellum, cerebrum, spinal cord, optic nerve, and retina was used to study the localization of the antigen bound by this antibody. The original IgM version of this antibody has been used in complement-dependent cytotoxic elimination of cerebellar oligodendrocytes in culture (PMID: 6786942). The reactivity of this antibody towards sulphated glycolipids like sulfatide, seminolipid and cholesterol was texted using ELISA and dot- blots (PMID: 2600978). This antibody along with another oligodendrocyte antibody O4 and oligodendroglial precursor cells (OPC) antibody A2B5 can be used for the immunocytochemical study the developmental stages of oligodendrocytes (PMID: 28230075). O4 antibody specific antigens are expressed on early dendrocyte progenitor and O1 antigens are expressed on late oligodendrocyte progenitors (PMID: 6178060). This antibody was used in the flow cytometric characterization of mouse oligodendroglial cell populations for study of mouse demyelinating disease (PMID: 25247590).
