Specificity
This antibody binds carbofuran, which is a carbamate pesticide used to control insects on a wide variety of field crops, including potatoes, corn and soybeans. It is a synthetic insecticide which is absorbed by the plants such that insecticidal concentration can be attained.

The original antibody was generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with hapten-carrier (BFNB- bovine serum albumin, BFNB-BSA) conjugates. BFNB stands for 4-[[(2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7- benzofuranyloxy) carbonyl]-amino]-butanoic acid.
Application Notes
The binding affinity and the specificity of this antibody were characterized by ELISA or indirect competitive ELISA (Yang et al., 2007). This antibody was also used to develop a rapid, specific and sensitive ELISA method to determine residues of the pesticide carbofuran in a variety of matrices (PMID: 18463589).
